January 2022 Art News from Evy Okerstrom
Happy New Year and Welcome! I hope you all had a good holiday break, and were all well. I am excited about this New Year. It is time to put into action all the plans I made at the end of the year. There will be classes at the Hub and several art exhibits to prepare for this coming year. Also some trips will be coming up too. I will keep you posted with the event dates. Please read my thought of the day…it’s at the end of the Blog! It has some very exciting news!
News: In early December I completed more 5”x5” framed pictures, and placed them at the Hub in their Gallery of Gifts for $20 each. I did a new Christmas card called the Christmas Angel with a Star and sold them in packages of 5 for $20. Almost all my 2022 Calendars have been sold, but I still have a few left. Thank you to everyone who bought one.
I also attended an art history class online through Rollins College. This is a monthly series of lectures by Adjunct Professor, Leslie Boles. December’s lecture was on Giotto di Bondone, who made and painted the frescoes in the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua, Italy. This masterpiece tells the story of the birth of Jesus. Note: It is covered in the December 2021 online version of National Geographic.
During the month, I finished a picture of a Wood Stork that I was working on. It is done in watercolor and pastels. I used as a reference picture, a farm with a wheat field in the foreground. There was tall grass in the front of the picture and I felt it needed something to make it more interesting. I decided to place a Wood Stork on the left bottom side. Most viewers usually start looking on the left side of the picture and then the eye moves around and in this case back to the bird. It is in the process of being framed. It will be entered into a February show at the Casements in Ormond Beach. I will update you next month on the details. This month the Art League of Daytona will have their, “Annual Members ’Awards Exhibit”. I plan on entering “Lennie’s Dining Room” in that show. I will put images here of the various artworks that I have been writing about.
