Photo of “the Girl with the Pearl Earring” 24″x 30″. Oil on canvas, Originally by Vermeer, this is an interpretation by Evy Okerstrom, NSF.
September brought painting, teaching, and a little time away.
After several months of work, I finished my oil painting of Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring. I’ve learned so much from Susmita Bando of the Worcester Art Museum, who teaches me twice a month on Zoom.
I also worked on a painting for Measured Moments, a Florida Women’s Arts Association exhibition. Each 12-by-12-inch work tells the story of a moment in time. The exhibition will be at Jane’s Art Center from November 7 through December 27.

At Trinity, my Monday class finished Bra-Vo! signs and placed them in local businesses for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Several students also made 3D bras for the exhibition and fundraiser. The Hub on Canal and Halifax Health Cancer Center will hold a reception on Saturday, October 17, at Jane’s Art Center. The bras will be for sale, and the exhibition continues through October.
I spent a week visiting my aunt in Bedford, Virginia, and painted every day. While I was there, a client asked me to make a painting. I finished it and presented it to her and her husband when I returned home.
