In 1768 ships carrying Mediterranean settlers arrived at the shores of what would be New Smyrna
In May, I spent much of the month working on an idea for The Hub on Canal’s Members Show. The June–July exhibit is titled “Echoes of New Smyrna – Art through Time.” I visited the New Smyrna Museum of History several times for inspiration. Dr. Andrew Turnbull, his ships, and the settlers arriving at the wharf became the focus of my project. I created a mixed media piece using canvas, paper, and paint to suggest the feeling of arriving in a new country. I also wrote a short summary explaining the meaning behind the work.
On May 9, I helped organize the annual luncheon at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Smyrna Beach. It was sponsored by the women of the church and open to the public. This year’s theme was “Growing with God”. The event featured Laura Albert from NSB Ace Hardware speaking about growing food in containers. Her presentation was informative and well received.

Pictures below are from the Trinity Luncheon May 9, 2026. It features Laura Albert speaking to the attendees.

The art classes at Trinity continue through the summer. Recently I spoke about the French Post-Impressionist painter Paul Cézanne and shared a short Instagram video about his influence on artists such as Picasso and Matisse.
I also introduced new tote bags and summer cards featuring my painting of Lifeguard Stand 408, now available at The Hub on Canal.
