“Echoes of New Smyrna – Art Through Time”, Exhibit at Janes Art Center
June was a month filled with history, memories and creative inspiration.
The Hub on Canal Members Show, “Echoes of New Smyrna – Art Through Time”, opened in early June and was well received. My collage, “The Wharf”, depicts Turnbull’s settlers arriving in New Smyrna. A framed summary beside the artwork explains the history of the wharf and the process I used to create the piece. The exhibit, curated by Jacob Coronado, continues through July at Jane’s Art Center.

On June 16th, I attended a special Spanish Wine Dinner presented through collaboration between City Market Bistro and the Hub on Canal. Each course was paired with a carefully selected wine. Wine representative Lytton Martin of Consortium Wines shared the history and character of each selection, while Executive Chef Scott Krause and his team created an exceptional menu. The evening was a wonderful reminder of how art, food and community can come together.

At Trinity Lutheran Church I recently taught a class on Marc Chagall (1887-1985). Chagall was known for painting memories, dreams and imagination through vibrant color and unusual imagery. Animals, musicians, floating figures and scenes from childhood often appeared in his work. His paintings remind us that memories can be expressed in many creative ways.
Inspired by this idea, I spent part of the month working on a new painting based on a photograph from a trip to Greece in 2005. As I developed the composition, I found myself thinking about Chagall’s use of memory, color and imagination.
I also introduced two new note cards at the Hub: “Begonias” and The Palm Grove”, now available at The Hub on Canal.
