Thank you for all your condolences, prayers and thoughtful notes following the death of my husband, Karl, in July. Many of you wrote from personal experience, and your words brought me peace. I am fortunate to have strong family support, and I am ready to return to creating my artwork. That is what this month’s Art News is really about.
In early August, the Daytona Urban Sketchers met at the Ormond Beach Library. With the summer heat, I found a window overlooking the farmers market outside and made it my subject. I photographed my sketching progress and later created an Instagram reel.

In my studio, I have begun work on my mixed media collage of Lake Marie in Wyoming. After several thumbnail sketches, I prepared the canvas with gesso. Next will come the background color, paper and paint. I plan to photograph the stages as the collage develops.

At our Monday classes at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Smyrna Beach, we have been working on projects for the Hub’s Bra-VO! This is for a Breast-cancer-awareness fundraiser benefiting Halifax Health Cancer Center for Hope. We decorated bra –shaped signs that will be displayed at local businesses. Several students are also creating 3D bra artworks for the fundraiser in October.
